New fee for using overseas ATMs

From 17 April 2009, banks and other financial institutions who own overseas ATMs may charge a service fee for Visa credit cardholders who use their machines.

This new fee varies depending on the bank who owns the ATM and the country you are in. However, whether a fee will be charged and the amount of the fee should be disclosed to you at the time of the transaction. You'll need to accept the fee before the transaction is processed.

When you get back home and get your statement, the fee will show as an "ATM owner fee".

We advise all ANZ credit card customers travelling overseas to use ATMs wisely, as each ATM transaction incurs overseas transaction fees (including the new ATM owner fee). To save on fees, it is generally better to use overseas ATMs sparingly, that is, not to withdraw small amounts of cash often.
