Preparing to move

There are a number of things you can do before you leave home which can make your banking easier and quicker once you arrive in New Zealand.

If you plan to stay in New Zealand for six months or more, we can help you open an ANZ account in New Zealand before you leave home, so you'll have ready access to your money when you arrive.

We recommend setting up your new account(s) before you plan to arrive in New Zealand Our New Resident Services team can help with this.

Once your ANZ account is set up, you can transfer money into it whenever you like. That way, you'll have easy access to cash when you arrive in New Zealand. To transfer funds, simply make an International Money Transfer from your home county.

If you are UK based, you can transfer up to the equivalent of NZ$1 million into your new ANZ account(s) before you arrive in New Zealand. If you wish to transfer more, please contact the New Resident Services team (Unfortunately, we cannot accept cash or cheque payments until you arrive in New Zealand.)

The bank you will be transferring funds from will be able to advise you on the International Money Transfer process and the fees they charge in connection with the transfer. ANZ may charge a standard fee to accept an inward International Money Transfer payment.

To withdraw or transfer money from your new ANZ account, you will need to activate it by visiting an ANZ branch in New Zealand, satisfying the identification and signing authority requirements.

To help you get set up sooner, you may be able to apply for other ANZ banking products like an ANZ pre-approved home loan or foreign currency account, before you leave.

Talk to our New Resident Services team to find out more information.*

* ANZ eligibility criteria, lending criteria, terms, conditions and fees apply. ANZ pre-approved home loans are subject to conditions.
