To protect your credit card and your transactions and make sure other people can't use it, follow these seven steps:
  1. Monitor your monthly statements: especially after an overseas trip. Check your transactions, even the small ones, because criminals sometimes 'test' stolen accounts by buying inexpensive items first.
  2. Protect your cards as if they're cash. Always keep them in a safe place.
  3. Report lost and stolen cards straight away. Phone us on 0800 658 044 and ask for a replacement card.
  4. Only do business with reputable organisations. If you’re using your credit card online, make sure the padlock symbol, indicating a secure environment, appears at the bottom of he browser. Or look for an 's' after the 'http' in the website address.
  5. Let us if know you spot anything unusual.
  6. Ignore unsolicited emails or phone calls seeking your personal or account information. We'll never email or phone you asking for personal or financial information – not will any of the credit card operators (such as Visa or MasterCard).
  7. Memorise your PIN (Personal Identification Number). Never write it down and never provide your PIN in response to emails.
