Managing our impact on the environment

ANZ is committed to actively managing the environmental impact of our activities. We've set clear, measurable targets to reduce our consumption of electricity, paper, air and road travel, our greenhouse gas emissions, and the amount of waste we send to the landfill.

To date, we're making good progress in reducing our environmental footprint. In 2009, our 9,000 staff have saved over 230 tonnes of paper (equivalent to about 5,520 trees), reduced our air travel by 30% and more than doubled our recycling.

We're also working with our suppliers to identify and manage their impacts, and exploring options to reduce and reuse our resources.

We are further committed to reducing the carbon impact of our operations. ANZ is on track to meet its target of achieving carbon neutrality by December 2009 in both New Zealand and Australia.
